An absolute favorite of Hanko's cruises is a visit to the Bengtskär lighthouse. The light of the highest lighthouse in the Nordic countries was lit for the first time in December 1906 and it rises a respectable 52 meters above sea level. When approaching the island you can already distinguish the lighthouse from afar. The lighthouse has survived many dramatic phases, e.g. during both world wars and it has many interesting stories to tell.

Bengskär belongs to the municipality of Kemiönsaari and it is located on the outermost islet of the Archipelago Sea, 15 nautical miles, i.e. only about 25 kilometres, southwest of Hanko. The lighthouse was opened to visitors in 1995 and has been a popular tourist destination ever since. In addition to the lighthouse itself, during the day you can also admire the island's rugged, beautiful nature, have a treat in the cafe and visit a small museum, a souvenir shop and a chapel.

The Bengtskäri cruise is an inseparable part of Hanko's summer attractions, so get to know the lighthouse's fascinating past on our ship M/S Summersea. During the trip, you can buy refreshments, souvenirs and snacks from the ship's cosy bar, and you can spend time admiring the scenery on the spacious sun deck. The trip's price includes delicious salmon soup served on the way out. The ship has 148 passenger seats and 90 dining seats.

WITH A CAR
There are two ways to get to the harbor with your own car:

Esplanadi - turn onto Appelgrenintie (level crossing) - Korsmaninkatu - Satamakatu 4 - Graniittikaari. Follow the signs for Itäsatama and Kuningatarvuori laituri.

Esplanadi - turn left over the railway bridge (Halmstadinkatu) - Nykanderinkatu - Satamakatu 4 - Graniittikaari

BY TRAIN
Hanko railway station is located approximately 1.5 km from the Bengtskär departure platform. The train arrives at Hanko station at 10:30 and you can walk briskly to get there on time. Go through the railway underpass and turn right onto Ratakatu. Walk to the beginning of Ratakatu-Vuorikatu-Kulmakatu and continue along the shore to the ship.

BY BUS
If you are coming with a group by bus, drive straight to Satamakatu 4. There are also parking spaces for the bus here for the day. You can see the parking area on the map.

I'M WALKING
If you stay overnight in Hanko, the best way to get to the port is by foot or by bike. From the hotels and villas in the center, it is a convenient walk to the Kuningatarvuori pier, our starting point.

You can order a taxi from the numbers 0800 2120 (Menevä) and 0400 613 400 (Taxi Jessica). The taxi rank is behind the train station (facing the Esplanade).
